Equine Skills for Hippotherapy

Intended Audience

     Equine Skills Level I Workshop is an entry level horse skills workshop for the therapist, volunteer or parent with little or no previous horse experience.

 

Overview

     Basic handling, grooming, tack fitting and leading skills are introduced along with basic nutritional, veterinary and daily care for the horse. Participants will also learn desirable conformation and movement for hippotherapy and how to choose a therapy horse. This course is designed to offer hands on experience and basic horse skills.

About the Faculty
    
Lori Garone, PT, HPCS is a physical therapist, licensed in New York, New Jersey and California. She is a board certified Clinical Specialist in Hippotherapy. Lori is presently on the American Hippotherapy Association Board of Directors and holds the office of Vice President. She serves as Chair of the Education Curriculum Development, Nominating and Standards and Practice Committees. She is also a Registered Therapist and Registered Instructor with the North American Riding for the Hanidcapped Association.

     Lori has a private practice on Long Island, New York, Physical Therapy in Motion, and incorporates hippotherapy into her patients’ plan of care. Lori was one of two therapists chosen to represent the United States in 1991 at the First Symposium of Physiotherapists and Riding Instructors which took place in Surry, England. She has trained successfully up to Fouth Level Dressage and is a life-long equestrienne.

     The special rate for participants of this workshop is $70/night for a standard room and $80/night for a suite. Be sure to mention The Children’s TherAplay Foundation when you make your reservation.

 

Cancellations

     Cancellations for these workshops must be received in writing and must be postmarked no later than Friday, July 7, 2008. At that time, your workshop fee, less a $25 processing fee, will be refunded. No refunds will be possible after July 7.
