One of kiddo Max’s big goals is to be able to go up and down steps so he can ride the school bus. He and Miss Jackie have been working hard in physical therapy to develop the skills he’ll need and, recently, they made another gain: walking over small changes in surface!
What’s that about? In the past, when facing a change in surface – like a doorway threshold, or shift in surface type (like going from carpet to tile) – Max would nearly always take a tumble. But now, through physical therapy, Max has developed the body awareness, balance, and coordination to *perceive* and *adapt to* the change in terrain.
What does that mean? The vast majority of the time, Max is now successfully navigating small surface transitions all by himself. That’s a big step towards his big steps on the school bus.
Great work buddy!
