Breinne Lasley

Administrative Manager & Event Coordinator
blasley@childrenstheraplay.org
(317) 872-4166

Upon graduating from Ball State University in 2000, Breinne travelled around the United States for a few years before finally settling in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was there that she began her career in the non-profit world at the Loveland Boys and Girls Club as a Program Coordinator. When she wasn't working or playing in the mountains, she volunteered at a horse ranch, hoping to gain enough knowledge and experience to someday join the equine world. As fate would have it, soon after moving back to Indiana, she was introduced to and fell in love with Children’s TherAplay.

In January of 2005, Breinne proudly joined the Children’s TherAplay team as the Office Manager. She has since become our Administrative Manager and Event Coordinator.

Diane McOmber

Billing Manager
dmcomber@childrenstheraplay.org
(317) 872-4166

Diane joined the Children’s TherAplay team in April 2010.

She graduated from Indiana University with a BS degree in Elementary Education and pursued her MS degree at Butler University.  She is a former teacher in the Indianapolis Public School System and the owner/director of a dance school in Carmel, IN.  She was also the artistic director of the Community Dance Foundation, Inc., a not for profit children’s dance company.  Both the school and the dance company allowed her the opportunity to teach, mentor and interact with children of all ages.

Diane serves as the Children’s TherAplay liaison between the clinic families and commercial insurance carriers, Indiana Medicaid and Children’s Special Health Care Services.

She is a member of the Indiana Chapter of AAPC and has completed an intensive billing course toward her CPB certification.

Katie Stratman

Front Office Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator
kstratman@childrenstheraplay.org
(317) 872-4166

After completing her degree in Public Health Promotions from Purdue, Katie moved back home to the Chicago suburbs where she dove headfirst into the nonprofit world. She spent two years helping provide food for kids in need through the Northern Illinois Food Bank child nutrition programs before relocating to Indianapolis for her husband’s work.

Katie soon came to love her adopted hometown and, an avid volunteer herself, jumped at the chance to join the Children’s TherAplay team in her present role.

Toni Nelson

Operations Manager
tnelson@childrenstheraplay.org
(317) 872-4166

Toni is our resident global traveler. Prior to joining Children’s TherAplay in 2011, Toni spent a number of years in the travel and hospitality industry. Her career experiences took her, among other places, to Moscow and Singapore. In both these locations, Toni established and managed offices for RCI, the world’s largest timeshare exchange company. Until she learned conversational Russian, grocery store shopping trips typically resulted in “pot luck” dinners. Toni still loves surprises.

Following her tenure with RCI, Toni joined Christel House International, an international children’s charity and in doing so, was introduced to the not-for-profit world. While at Christel House, in addition to operations, Toni helped launch and manage fundraising, marketing, and public relations efforts.

Toni and her husband Bill built IRUS Stables in Lebanon, Indiana and operated it for 14 years. Toni’s respect for and knowledge of horses along with her passion for helping children and her professional experience help make her a great asset to the Children’s TherAplay team.

Judy Quackenbush

Clinical Administrative Specialist
jquackenbush@childrenstheraplay.org
(317) 872-4166

Shannon Wade

Marketing Programs Manager
swade@childrenstheraplay.org
(317) 872-4166

And she thought she was going into museums! How she got from there into high-tech is an interesting but lengthy story. Suffice it to say that when she instead found herself with a front-row seat for the evolution of electronic learning, Shannon considered herself very lucky indeed.

She spent nearly a decade working with Cisco Systems to empower students in 115+ countries through Cisco Networking Academy, the world’s largest (and some say first) e-learning community. That theme continued when Shannon was tapped to develop curriculum and train for the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute.

She still gets geeked out about using technology to help others and, as a contractor for Children’s TherAplay, is delighted to have the opportunity to do just that.

Lauren and therapy horse HankLauren Copenhaver

Equine Program Manager

Lauren joined Children’s TherAplay as a part-time horse handler in March of 2014 and was promoted to her current role in January 2018.

Lauren began riding horses at the age of 8 and competed in the Indiana Hunter/Jumper circuit into young adulthood. Spending years showing, training, and even being a groom at two Indiana racetracks, her love of working with horses never wavered. Although she still rides today, her focus is less on competition and more on keeping the equine team at TherAplay happy and healthy. Her own horse, Monster Mash, joined the TherAplay team in February 2018.

Graduating from IUPUI in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Business, Lauren dabbled with the idea of pursuing a master’s degree in social work. However, as attached as she was to her work with the horses and kiddos at Children's TherAplay, she chose to dedicate herself to the organization and stay on full-time. Lauren now leads the talented team of horse handlers, participates in outreach events, and thrives on the joyful challenge of caring the exceptional herd of horses at Children's TherAplay.

    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 10
Horse hero stats: FairyTale has participated in an estimated 5,300 equine-assisted physical and occupational therapy treatments.
Get to know her: Our barn princess knows how to get what she wants using her good looks and charm. Don’t let her fool you because at heart she is a sassy girl who doesn’t keep her opinions to herself and loves being the boss.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver Pippa Mann and kiddo Brooklyn
Fun fact: The crown next to FairyTale’s stall was part of her Princess and the P costume with a staff member. (You can guess which of them was the princess.)

    Zippy

    22-year-old Welsh Pony
    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 6
Get to know him: Before coming to Children's TherAplay, Zippy was a lesson pony next door at Lucky Farms and taught many children to ride. Though he’s small in stature, Zippy has a big personality.
2016 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver Jack Harvey and kiddo Luke
Fun fact: He is the self-appointed guardian of the horse treats. When anyone comes near the treat bucket, Zippy sticks his nose through the bars of his stall to investigate.

    Amore

    19-year-old Haflinger
    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 6
Horse hero stats: Moe has participated in an estimated 3,200 equine-assisted physical and occupational therapy treatments.
Get to know him: He is one of two Haflingers in the barn. Moe is curious about everything and has fun playing in the pasture with his “Mini Moe,” Gideon.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: NBC Sports’ Kevin Lee and kiddo Tysen
Fun fact: To the delight of the kiddos, Moe starred in an informal Stop, Drop, and Roll public service announcement video. The kiddos love watching the video and seeing their buddy roll around on the arena for a good back scratch.

    Padre

20-year-old Mustang / Quarter Horse cross
    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 5
Get to know him: His sweet and conscientious personality makes Padre a great partner for our kids and the other horses. Two of Padre’s favorite pastimes are playing ball with Rocky and rolling around in the dirt to get as dirty as possible.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver Santi Urrutia and kiddo Joan
Fun fact: Padre is our resident comedian. During indoor turnout, he has been known to pick up a muck bucket with his teeth and “help” clean the arena.

    Red

    15-year-old grade pony
    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 3
Horse hero stats: Red has participated in an estimated 1,700 equine-assisted physical and occupational therapy treatments.
Get to know him: Red stole everyone’s heart when he arrived as he is nothing short of adorable! He’s the perfect size for our smallest patients and is curious and gentle with the kiddos. Red loves playing outside with his pasture buddies.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver Spencer Pigot and kiddo Drew
Fun fact: Equine Ambassador Rocky helped us get to know Red and welcome him to Children’s TherAplay with this sweet interview featured on our news blog.

    Riley

    23-year-old Quarter Horse
    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 3
Get to know him: Riley's easygoing attitude and love of people make him an ideal therapy horse. He is a gentle giant and a total sweetheart — and he loves people! Riley is eager to please and can get along with anyone: horse or human.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver Mikahil Aleshin  and kiddo Jack
Fun fact: Riley is a true “people horse” and often stretches his head out of his stall to say hello and make new friends.

    Mikey

    27-year-old grade pony
    Years at Children’s TherAplay: 2
Get to know him: A retired lesson horse, Mikey joined the Children’s’ TherAplay team in January of 2015 and quickly proved himself to be a great favorite with our kiddos. He is unfailingly patient, gentle, and trustworthy with our kiddos.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver Aaron Telitz  and kiddo Brayden
Fun fact: Mikey loves taking an afternoon snooze with his chin resting on his stall door, and he also enjoys decorating his bright coat with festive grass stains and mud.

    Thor

    13-year-old Norwegian Fjord
Started at Children’s TherAplay: January 2017
Get to know him: Thor's flashy mane and tail, a trademark of his breed, caused an instant sensation among our kiddos when he came to Children’s’ TherAplay in January of 2017. But it was his can-do attitude, affectionate nature, and gently rolling movement that showed him to be just the guy for our herd.
2017 #Horsepower500 team: IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe and kiddo Ryan
Fun fact: Thor comes to us with experience in dressage, which some people describe as dancing for horses. That makes him the perfect partner for #Horsepower500 teammate IndyCar driver and Dancing with the Stars phenom, James Hinchcliffe.
