Kathy has over ten years of non-profit experience, most recently serving as a campaign director at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and prior to that at St.Vincent Hospital Foundation where she worked in Community Affairs. Kathy’s experience helping organizations revitalize their fundraising campaigns and develop stronger community relationships make her a perfect fit for this role.
Kathy is married to Ron and has three children: Jesse, Bailie, and Joseph, as well as a new son-in-law, Ryan.

Makaela serves as our Front Office Coordinator, and usually is the first face our kiddos and parents see when they arrive at TherAplay! Makaela is currently working toward obtaining her degree in Health Sciences with a certificate in Rehab and Disability Studies at IUPUI, with plans to graduate in December 2019.
Makaela loves TherAplay because she likes watching the kids have fun and achieve their goals when they arrive each week. She also enjoys working at a job which has allowed her to learn so much.
In her free time, Makaela enjoys doing DIY projects around the house, going for walks with her dog, and spending time with family and friends.

Sierra first came to Children’s TherAplay as a volunteer and began handling horses while finishing her degree. Although she started as a Drawing and Illustration major in the Herron School of Art and Design, she branched out and eventually changed career paths.
Sierra joined the team full-time after graduating in 2018 with a BS from the Kelley School of Business. She is excited by the challenge of growing revenue at Children’s TherAplay and hopes to learn as much as possible from her teammates along the way. In her spare time, she enjoys riding, playing with her dog, and making art.

Upon graduating from Ball State University in 2000, Breinne travelled around the United States for a few years before finally settling in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was there that she began her career in the non-profit world at the Loveland Boys and Girls Club as a Program Coordinator. When she wasn't working or playing in the mountains, she volunteered at a horse ranch, hoping to gain enough knowledge and experience to someday join the equine world. As fate would have it, soon after moving back to Indiana, she was introduced to and fell in love with Children’s TherAplay.
In January of 2005, Breinne proudly joined the Children’s TherAplay team as the Office Manager. She has since become our Events Manager.

Prior to joining TherAplay, Emily spent four years in non-profit fundraising as a Campaign Manager at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She graduated from Saint Louis University in 2015 with a degree in Communications. Go Bills!

Toni is our resident global traveler. Prior to joining Children’s TherAplay in 2011, Toni spent a number of years in the travel and hospitality industry. Her career experiences took her, among other places, to Moscow and Singapore. In both these locations, Toni established and managed offices for RCI, the world’s largest timeshare exchange company. Until she learned conversational Russian, grocery store shopping trips typically resulted in “pot luck” dinners. Toni still loves surprises.
Following her tenure with RCI, Toni joined Christel House International, an international children’s charity and in doing so, was introduced to the not-for-profit world. While at Christel House, in addition to operations, Toni helped launch and manage fundraising, marketing, and public relations efforts.
Toni and her husband Bill built IRUS Stables in Lebanon, Indiana and operated it for 14 years. Toni’s respect for and knowledge of horses along with her passion for helping children and her professional experience help make her a great asset to the Children’s TherAplay team.

After a summer internship at Children's TherAplay during college, Abby feel in love with the mission and came back to work full-time as our Patient Advocate. She graduated from Ball State University in 2018 with a degree in Child Development and a minor in ABA therapy.
Her in her free time, Abby enjoys yoga, trying new restaurants, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and going to the Broad Ripple Farmers Market.

Judy began working at Children’s TherAplay as a horse handler in 2014. She is often heard saying, “I came because of my love for the horses, I stayed because of my love for the kids.” Judy joined the administrative team in December 2016.
In her spare time you will often find her at one sporting event or another cheering on one of her 12 grandchildren.

Upon completion of her degree, Katie moved back home to the Chicago suburbs and dove head first into the nonprofit world. There, she spent two years helping provide food for kids in need through the Northern Illinois Food Bank child nutrition programs.
After relocating to Indianapolis for her husband’s work, Katie soon came to love her adopted hometown. An avid volunteer herself, she jumped at the chance to join the Children’s TherAplay team.
Katie believes in early childhood health promotion, giving back, and finding happiness through helping others. In her spare time, Katie enjoys gardening/floral design and DIY projects, spending time with family and her dog, as well as lending a volunteer hand in her community.

Emma graduated from Indiana University in 2017 with degrees in Social and Historical Sciences and Sociology, and with a Masters Degree in Gerontology from UIndy in 2019.
In her free time, Emma loves living life with her husband Matthew, riding her own horse, music, staying active, playing guitar and singing.
Emma loves how everyone works so hard to serve a wonderful group of kiddos at Children's TherAplay, and that she has the privilege of loving on and working with the most special horses.

Katy is came to Children's TherAplay in May 2019, after graduating from University of Indianapolis with her Masters in Occupational Therapy in 2015. Following graduation, Katy spent time in China with her husband caring for children with special needs in an orphanage. While there, she taught them important occupational skills, as well as connected with a local hippotherapy facility!
Katy loves working at TherAplay, and getting to see children achieve things they may have formerly thought impossible. In her free time, she loves being around all things related to food: trying new restaurants, gardening, or cooking. If it tastes good, she's there! Katy has also traveled to 25 different countries, and looks forward to visiting more!

Stephanie is a Michigan native who has been with Children’s TherAplay since August 2017. She comes with more than four years of pediatric therapy experience as school-based occupational therapist in Avon, in Indy southside school townships, and First Steps.
After graduating from the University of Michigan with her bachelor of science degree, she spent a few years an avid outdoors woman within the Colorado hiking community, summiting over 25 fourteen thousand foot peaks. She worked in various professional capacities in sales, as a home health aid, and babysitter before attaining her Master of Occupational Therapy degree at Governor's State University in Illinois in 2009. Stephanie completed a field work rotation in Chicago Public Schools and continued as a volunteer in the CPS after-school programs and a domestic violence shelter in their children's programs.
A career opportunity brought her husband and her to Indiana in 2012. Since then she has found Indiana as her home and is proud to call herself a Hoosier. Since arriving in Indiana, Stephanie continues to volunteer in modest capacities for few organizations in and around Indianapolis: Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Gleaners. She holds AHA level 1 accreditation.

Alex graduated from the University of Indianapolis in 2016 with a degree in psychology, then later graduated with her doctorate of occupational therapy degree froom UIndy in 2018. She has experience working in school systems and outpatient pediatrics, as well as program development and animal assisted therapy.
Alex first heard about Children's TherAplay when she did a project on hippotherapy in graduate school. One of her favorite qualities about TherAplay is the mission and values. She loves how kind, friendly, helpful and passionate the team is, and how hard TherAplay works to provide the best quality of service to our kiddos, making it a very client-centered model.
In her free time, Alex enjoys spending time with her cat, Tilly, and her fiance, Travis. She likes to read, watch Travis race go karts, volunteer at her church, try new restaurants, and be outdoors.

She was drawn to TherAplay because she could incorporate her love of animals into her therapy sessions. She says it's amazing to see the bond that children have with the horses and how it can have such a therapeutic benefit.
In her free time, Neva likes to take her dogs on long walks and watch them play with other puppy friends at the dog park. Fun fact: Neva grew up on a pig farm, so she's been around a variety of animals throughout her entire life!

Jaime graduated in 1990 from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Medical Professions / Occupational Therapy. She completed her graduate training in pediatric occupational therapy as a research fellow at OSU from 1991 to 1993 and went on to work for Easter Seals of Central Ohio and Allied Health Professions private practice, both in Columbus, OH. She became SIPT certified in 1996.
After Jaime moved to Indianapolis in 1997, she worked as a pediatric occupational therapist at Riverview Hospital with early intervention and Tri-County Education Co-op in outpatient rehabilitation.
In 1998, Jaime became an independent provider for First Steps of Indiana and, from 2000 to 2004, was employed in an independent contract position with Children's TherAplay. We were delighted to have Jaime return to Children's TherAplay as a PRN (as needed) contractor in 2011.
Jamie has completed American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) Level I Equine Skills and Treatment Principles.

Leah joined the Children’s TherAplay team as an occupational therapist in August 2016. Leah’s passion for the Children’s TherAplay Foundation began in the waiting room while she watched her sibling’s therapy sessions. It continued during her graduate education when she completed a clinical fieldwork rotation here in the summer of 2015.
She holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Purdue University-Indianapolis and a master of science degree in occupational therapy and her doctorate in occupational therapy from Indiana University.
Leah has completed both the American Hippotherapy Association Level I and II courses, as well as several other courses offered by the American Hippotherapy Association. In addition, she has taken courses in kinesiotaping, reflex integration, vestibular dysfunction, and child development.

Teresa graduated from The Ohio State University in 1990 with a BS in Allied Health in Physical Therapy. She has specialized in pediatrics since the start of her career, working in both hospital and clinic based outpatient rehabilitation. She has been integrating hippotherapy into her treatments for 10 years.
Teresa’s specialty training includes Neuro Developmental Treatment Certification; the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) Level II Course; as well as advanced training in kinesiotaping, gait training, sensory integration, and dynamic bracing for pediatrics.
Facility Service Dog
In addition to her experience and enthusiasm, Teresa brings AJ, a facility service dog through Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). AJ is a three-year-old Lab/Golden cross who graduated CCI in 2016 and has been trained to successfully perform over 50 different commands to assist individuals with physical needs.
AJ works alongside our therapists to help children enjoy their treatment even more.

Jessica graduated with her doctorate of physical therapy from Azusa Pacific University and her bachelor degree in exercise science from Ball State University. She has clinical experience in pediatrics, orthopedics, and spinal cord injury.
Her interest in the treatment strategy of hippotherapy began when she was a child attending her younger brother’s hippotherapy sessions. After receiving training in women’s health post graduation, she pursued her passion for hippotherapy at Children's TherAplay.

Jamie loves working at Children's TherAplay because of the joy found in the office. Whether it's a patient, family member, or co-worker, someone is always smiling! She also loves the sense of pride and confidence patients express as they develop new skills both on the horse and in the clinic.

Jackie graduated with her doctorate in physical therapy from Indiana University and completed her undergraduate degree in Biology with an emphasis on genetics at Purdue (Go Boilermakers!).
Jackie has completed the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) Level 1 course and looks forward to completing Level 2 in the next year. Jackie has always had a passion for pediatric therapy, completing her final clinical rotation with First Steps.

Lauren joined Children's TherAplay in May 2019 after graduating with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2019 from University of Indianapolis. From the time she was a young girl watching her mother work as a pediatric physical therapist, Lauren knew that was what she wanted to do someday. Her favorite part about Children's TherAplay seeing how much the kids open up around the horse. Even by taking kids into the barn, she says you can see the connection they have with the horses.
Fun Fact: Lauren is a scuba diver! She was certified at age 12, and has been in waters up to 110 feet deep. In her free time, she also likes to read, be outside, and coach softball pitchers.

She has specialized in pediatrics since the start of her career, working in both hospital and clinic based outpatient rehabilitation. She has been integrating hippotherapy into her treatments for 10 years.
Teresa’s specialty training includes Neuro Developmental Treatment Certification; the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) Level II Course; as well as advanced training in kinesiotaping, gait training, sensory integration, and dynamic bracing for pediatrics.
Facility Service Dog
In addition to her experience and enthusiasm, Teresa brings AJ, a facility service dog through Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). AJ is a three-year-old Lab/Golden cross who graduated CCI in 2016 and has been trained to successfully perform over 50 different commands to assist individuals with physical needs.
AJ works alongside our therapists to help children enjoy their treatment even more.

Jessica graduated with her doctorate of physical therapy from Azusa Pacific University and her bachelor degree in exercise science from Ball State University. She has clinical experience in pediatrics, orthopedics, and spinal cord injury.
Her interest in the treatment strategy of hippotherapy began when she was a child attending her younger brother’s hippotherapy sessions. After receiving training in women’s health post graduation, she pursued her passion for hippotherapy at Children's TherAplay.

Jamie joined Children's TherAplay in May 2019 after graduating from Indiana University with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2018. Jamie loves working at Children's TherAplay because of the joy found in the office. Whether it's a patient, family member, or co-worker, someone is always smiling! She also loves the sense of pride and confidence patients express as they develop new skills both on the horse and in the clinic.
When she's not working, you can find Jamie traveling, hiking with her dog Shep or taking a nap!

Jackie graduated with her doctorate in physical therapy from Indiana University and completed her undergraduate degree in Biology with an emphasis on genetics at Purdue (Go Boilermakers!).
Jackie has completed the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) Level 1 course and looks forward to completing Level 2 in the next year. Jackie has always had a passion for pediatric therapy, completing her final clinical rotation with First Steps.
She absolutely loves working with the kiddos, their families and the horses here at Children’s Theraplay.

Lauren joined Children's TherAplay in May 2019 after graduating with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2019 from University of Indianapolis. From the time she was a young girl watching her mother work as a pediatric physical therapist, Lauren knew that was what she wanted to do someday. Her favorite part about Children's TherAplay seeing how much the kids open up around the horse. Even by taking kids into the barn, she says you can see the connection they have with the horses.
Fun Fact: Lauren is a scuba diver! She was certified at age 12, and has been in waters up to 110 feet deep. In her free time, she also likes to read, be outside, and coach softball pitchers.
